When Rob and I started this band, we had no idea how big it would get. The process was such a slow steady climb though, that it was never a shock to the system. Everything was gradual – one year we’re playing small clubs to three people, touring in a van and sleeping in it, the next we’re sleeping on floors, the next year we’re able to afford one hotel room at a Motel 6, playing to 50-100 people, the next year we have two rooms – you get the picture. All of the sudden, (10 years later) we’re selling out arenas, touring in 3 buses with a crew of thirteen, and getting 4 nice hotel rooms a night. Rock’n’Roll paid off, as it rarely does, and we had a great time along the way. The odd thing is that this level of fame was never a goal – we hoped to reach the level of the Cramps or the Ramones, playing small theaters. That was success to us. We worked so hard, practicing every night for years, playing gigs, creating artwork, setting up tours, making records, flyering with homemade wheat paste in the freezing cold at 2am in NYC while dodging cops….but we really had no dream of where this hard work was going to take us. It was just what we felt we had to do.

I met Rob in the fall of 85, and one month later we were putting out our first 7”. Between that moment and the last day of White Zombie 11 years later, so much happened and so many people contributed to the band. That story has seemingly been swept under a rug for many long years, and I feel it is time to credit those involved and share the details for those of you interested.

Please see my section  – the BOOK – for more info, as almost anything you might want to know about us will be there! However, I do have a brief outline of our eleven years here, which I created for the White Zombie box set. These liner notes never saw the light of day, so here’s something for you to peruse…. Enjoy!

I would also like to add that I may be selling off some of my old collectibles here – Rob and I kept a lot of the early vinyl and it seems silly to have it hidden away in storage any longer. If it is not posted now, check back periodically. Meanwhile, my book “I’m in the Band” should be out Fall 2010 on Soft Skull Press with tons of backstage notes and photos from day one to the very end – check it out!
